Dr. Yael Henkin

Yael Henkin, PhD, is Head of the Hearing, Speech and Language Center and Communication Disorders Services, and the co-director of the cochlear implant program at the Sheba Medical Center, Tel Hashomer. She is a senior scientist and lecturer at the Department of Communication Disorder, Sackler Faculty of Medicine, at Tel Aviv University. Dr. Henkin has earned her BA and MA in Communication Disorders at Tel Aviv University. Her PhD and post-doctoral studies focused on auditory cortical neurophysiology and took place at Tel Aviv University and at the University of Michigan, respectively. Dr. Henkin’s research interests are within the fields of auditory neuroscience, audiology, and hearing rehabilitation. Her research on cortical auditory processing in cochlear implant recipients has led to numerous invitations to speak in international meetings. Dr. Henkin’s current research focuses on the effects of aging on auditory-cognitive processing in normal hearing listeners and cochlear implant recipients. Also under study are electrophysiological manifestations of binaural processing in older normal hearing listeners, and in hearing-impaired children habilitated by means of hearing aids and cochlear implants. Dr. Henkin’s clinical expertise is in the fields of audiology, electrophysiology, and hearing rehabilitation by means of hearing aids and implantable devices. She consults and serves in various committees within the field of communication disorders at the Israeli Ministry of Health and at Tel Aviv University.
